I had been down with fever for a while and couldn't really go to the mma gym unless I wanted to start an outbreak.
Today was my first spar back after almost 2 weeks. Unfortunately I overslept and had to rush there so I didn't get the proper time to warm up.
The first fight went great, I was paired up with a newbie and I did not have shin guards, which was a bummer for me because while my shins are conditioned enough to not hurt when getting kicked but i can't kick the newbie hard unless I want him to quit the gym.
So with most of my arsenal locked I just had my punches and low kicks which I am used to practicing. I have gotten used to the rhythm of fighting people who don't really know how to throw a punch, it's very easy to predict when someone is throwing a blind haymaker with full power and it's also very easy to pop in and out of range to avoid getting hit. I am pretty decent at defence and I need more offensive practice.
My second fight was with a more experienced fighter and I can say that he's been putting in the work and made me work for whatever bits of ground I need to gain. Unfortunately I fucked up a bit while kicking him in the body by connecting my ankle with his elbow. This is a guy who can break coconuts open with his elbow which is a weird flex in the mma community, so now I'm paying for that mistake with an ankle that hurts immensely. I hope it's not broken, but c'est la vie.
Third round again with the newbie and he was getting angry at me for reason, and it really sucks when you let the emotions get to you. I understand his frustration of not being able to hit me, while I'm getting in and out of range counter punching his face, it is annoying as hell being on the other side. Hopefully he learns to be patient and not keep his big forehead out for me to punch.
My jab cross low kick combo is nearly perfect and my distance management is getting better. I know when I am in range and out of range. But the problem is that I need to get more creative with my combos. I need to incorporate more hooks, uppercuts, thrust kicks and spinning heel kicks. It makes my fights look more flashy and let's me set up unexpected situations.
I want to work on my pressure fighting but it can't be done with a newb because wild haymakers are a pain in the ass to deal with and I am not interested in getting knocked out on a Saturday morning because someone can't keep their ego in check.
I wish my ankle feels better tomorrow :(
