Introduction
Today was my first spar after a break. I was excited going in. I wanted to write about my experience and reflect on my performance. So here is a breakdown of the good, bad and ugly
Good
- My energy levels and movement are up. I feel so free gliding around the mats. It's kind of serene. ᕙ(͡°‿ ͡°)ᕗ
- Even though I was on a break for 6 months I did keep up with my shadow boxing so my boxing and slip skills haven't rusted. ᕙ( ~ . ~ )ᕗ
- My fists are fast and hard, and my Jabs can reliably reach the chin. ᕦ( ⊡ 益 ⊡ )ᕤ
- I don't tire as quickly. So I am moving around a lot more and using all of the ring. I want to develop a style which relies on slips and counterpunches and this is the first step on a long journey for that. ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°)ᕤ
Bad
- I took two punches square in the cheek, because my guard fell. I need to practice keeping my guard up. ಠ︵ಠ
- My kicks have deteriorated, obviously I need to condition my shins as well. ಠ益ಠ
- I need to practice more with slipping inside the opponents guard, followed by a few good body shot and Uppercut combos. Those have always been my least practiced skills and so many people have no guard on their chins for an Uppercut. I don't want to miss out on such a juicy opportunity for a photo finish. ʕಠ_ಠʔ
Ugly
- My kicks today used more force than necessary, it's my first day back and since I was not wearing a shin pad I should be more careful so as not to injured my teammate. I did that twice today because it happened in the flow of the fight, and I should learn control. I avoided kicking post that and just peppered my teammate with punches. ಥ‿ಥ
- I forgot to hero dose on creatine. I don't want to CTE-Maxx so next time take a hero dose before and after sparring. I have a headache ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
- I fucked up during bag work and did a left hook the very incorrect way nearly breaking my wrist again. This sort of idiotic fuck up would cost me. I need to be more careful while throwing a hook, and focus on the correct mechanism of a hook. Just drill until it's perfect. ( ꈨຶ ˙̫̮ ꈨຶ )
