Weeknote August 2 - August 9 2026

Sometimes there are weeks where nothing happens and then there is a week where everything that could have possibly happened has happened.

Whoa. Has it been a week. My Monday and Tuesday went as expected. I have been looking forward to a trip with my close friend, his girlfriend and a few of his colleagues to the Western Ghats. It's been raining so I was looking forward to that short beautiful hike. I have been feeling quite a bit burnt out but this was supposed to be me finally restoring some of my humanity by reconnecting with nature in a forest. Well little did i expect that I would be having more free time now.

Wednesday arrives and post the daily updates i get an invitation by the HR.

I think you can guess where this is going. I along with nearly 200 people were laid off from our workplace.

This came as a surprise, and it sucks but I can take it on the chin like a champ.

Weekend at the Ghats

This trip couldn't have come at a better time. I needed some time and space to blow off some steam. So I decided to pack my bags and brave the Western Ghats with people I don't know and have little in common with. It's rainy season now, so it's a really fun time to go for a small hike in a forest. The forest was beautiful and filled to the brim with leeches. So freaky watching these small things crawl in the ground looking for any openings where they can somehow get on your skin and drink some blood. They were crawling all over my shoes, pants and jacket looking for any place worth biting. I was lucky enough to wear clothes which could withstand their feeble onslaught. Our hosts were gracious and generous with their time and hospitality. I tried what I can describe as a distant cousin of the Bhel Puri called Girmit. It's a very simple dish but i like how it tastes. I fell on my ass twice while hiking the wet trail, and can confidently say that it's not a hike unless you fall down twice and have a person scream loudly when they see a leech on their foot. One other thing that was on my mind this weekend was the fact that my ex messaged me out of the blue, telling me that she felt unsettled and wanted me to take care of myself. That just made me wonder if our connection was so special that it can transcend oceans, why did she rip my heart out like a mortal kombat fatality. To be honest some part of me wanted her to message me but when it actually happened it just made me feel nothing. I just told her that it's not her job to bother about how I am doing anymore and ended the conversation there.

What's next

I put off dealing with the layoffs for Monday-me. And now that he's on the horizon I'm looking forward to how he handles all this. It sucks because I was just getting comfortable with the people at work. Moving on is also not a linear path so I'm looking for someone with whom things make sense. But that's showbiz baby.
