Running Training

Things are going well. It's just two weeks left before my first ultramarathon. I have understood that the best thing I can do to make sure my run goes as smoothly as possible are the following:

  • no alarms. If I have to wake up at 4 in the morning, I need to get a good night of sleep. That does not happen if I have an alarm because it makes me have sleep anxiety. I can naturally wake up at 4 or 4:30 by hydrating enough.

  • fill the water bladders the previous night and keep it ready. No need to waste time in the morning filling them and wrestling them into bags.

  • Eat a nice carb heavy breakfast 30 mins to an hour before running, so for long distance running 500 grams of boiled mashed potatoes is helpful because it gives me enough energy to run at least 15 kms without feeling tired.

  • There are other small optimizations I will be making before my final long run this week and getting ready to face the ultra with an open mind.

Reading

I'm getting a lot of my reading done by listening to audio books. It's just nice, and if anyone is struggling with getting their reading done I would recommend it. I also got two new comic books which I want to spend some time reading Green Lantern: far sector and DC: The new Frontier. They are both highly rated so I want to check them out.

Music

I tried listening to Sabaton's album The Great War. It hasn't clicked yet. I'll give it another shot this week.
